EBA Convention 2010 in Zurich, CH #1 the exhibit

The 2010 EBA Convention took place in Zurich, Switzerland from June 11 to June 14, 2010. Here a few of the trees that were exhibited. The overall architecture and design of the exhibit area was incredibly good. I have never seen anything like this in the world. The Swiss have created a new standard.

I see progress, too. You said: "I have never seen anything like this in the world.". Normally, you would say something like "There is nothing like this in the world.". ;-)

Walter , did you exibit anything ?

do you think the plain white "shelf" on the wall displayed the trees better than the traditional scroll/accent plant/table display ?

Tim,
unfortunately I did not exhibit anything. The registration was EIGHT months ago. And I missed it. So none of my trees, but two days full of tree critiques by WP about somebody else's trees. The tree critiques were 'official', of course.; I was invited to do them, which was a great honor for me.
The plain background in most cases is better than a scroll. I have nothing against scolls as long as they are sparsely used and very well chosen. I think a very traditional tree should well have scroll in many cases. I wonder about a modern or naturalistic tree.

It is next big step in evolution of European bonsai. I think this progress goes to very interesting direction. I am very happy that I leave in Europe, because here we don't have to care about restricted Japanese principles and if anybody accept our different way in bonsai. Strong words but I think that's true.

Hi Mr. Walter Pall,
i have one idea about the Muschelzypress of Johan van Wageningen (30ยช image), and i would like to know if it can be applied?
My idea is that everything after the first trunk is transformed into jin in its entire lenght.

Best regards,

Miguel,

sure it's possible. But is it better? You would take away the uniqueness. I think as is it is very good.

hi walter

thank you very much for your tree-critics you did on sunday. i like your way to see a tree and the way you think about bonsai in general. go your way walter, even if it`s not very popular amongst a lot of traditionalists. i am confident that modern bonsai in europe is not the same than old school bonsai of japan ( that does not suppose japanese bonsi is not right!)

Thank you very much for the response, my question was to see if i am thinking right because sometimes my ideas are a little bit mad. I also think that it is very good, i wish i have one in that stage, and that the table emphasizes the movement of the bonsai.

Best regards,
Miguel Costa
